UCSB Earth Science Mineral Separation Facilities
We operate extensive mineral separation facilities capable of rapidly processing large numbers of rock and sediment samples.
Fritsch Model II PULVERISETTE 1. Input size <95mm, output size <1mm
ASC Scientific 'mini' jaw crusher, with hardened steel and aumina crushing plates. input size <50mm, output size <500um
Bico Disc Mill
Spex shatterbox. Depending on the application, we use Tungsten-carbide, Alumina ceramic and Agate milling heads.
We operate 4 Frantz isodynamic magnetic separators - 3 in horizontal mode, and 1 in vertical mode. All are equipped with automatic sample feed systems.
Two "Gemeni" gravity separation tables.
A new generation gravity separation 'water' table designed by Trevor Dumitru. Avoids the need for heavy liquids separation for most samples.
Water recycling system for 'gravity separation' tables. Conserves several ten's of thousands gallons of water / year
miniaturized MEI separation system using 'constriction tubes' designed by Trevor Dumitru
Buchi rotovapor system for efficient reclaim of MEI.
